The Power of Positive Thinking
There are tons of books on sale related to helping you discover the secrets of how to spend less, save more, invest more wisely, retire earlier, get out of debt faster, and solve untold issues in your life.
But arguably the most widely circulated book of the 20th century on the topic of personal success has to have been Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.
If you’re reading this, I’m sure you have your fair share, right?
I bet you ever have a fair few which you haven’t even read yet, right again?
Side note: Make a definite plan to read all of them, and your favourite, read again.
Napoleon Hill, author and former advisor to President Franklin D. Roosevelt, interviewed more than five hundred of the most successful men America has ever known to figure out the key to their successes and riches.
He condensed all of his findings inside of his book Think and Grow Rich, which went on to become one of the best-selling books of all time.
Despite Hill interviewing some of the most iconic businessmen of his day, none of his findings involved any particularly hard-to-attain skills.
Isn’t that awesome to hear?
His whole philosophy for success is based around overcoming your psychological barriers that keep you from becoming wealthy.
Basically, YOU can do this, if you first, decide you want success, and then go ALL out to obtain it.
Wishing will not bring you riches.
All that “Law of Attraction” hocus pocus, aint gonna bring in the millions my friend.
Sorry to be blunt, well I’m not really, because you really need to hear the truth.
Some of these so called “gurus” might well have been filling your mind with junk.
That’s probably why you’re not seeing the kinds of success you’re aiming for.
And will this book, solve all your issues, of course not.
You Need Massive Action
Reading a single book on success, and then not implementing MASSIVE ACTION, will NOT help you achieve success.
Likewise, Napoleon Hill writes. “Desiring riches with a state of mind that becomes an obsession, then planning definite ways and means to acquire riches, and backing those plans with persistence which does not recognize failure, will bring riches.”
In one passage, he sums up six steps to turning a desire for wealth into “its financial equivalent”:
Number One:
Fix in your mind the exact amount of money you desire. It is not sufficient merely to say “I want plenty of money.” Be definite as to the amount. (There is a psychological reason for definite- ness which will be described in a subsequent chapter).
Number Two:
Determine exactly what you intend to give in return for the money you desire. (There is no such reality as “something for nothing.”)
Number Three:
Establish a definite date when you intend to possess the money you desire.
Number Four:
Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire, and begin at once, whether you are ready or not, to put this plan into action.
Number Five:
Write out a clear, concise statement of the amount of money you intend to acquire, name the time limit for its acquisition, state what you intend to give in return for the money, and describe clearly the plan through which you intend to accumulate it.
Number Six:
Read your written statement aloud, twice daily, once just before retiring at night, and once after arising in the morning. AS YOU READ, SEE AND FEEL AND BELIEVE YOURSELF ALREADY IN POSSESSION OF THE MONEY.
Do you think this sounds too basic?
Have you ever implemented this kind of plan in the past?
Perhaps you have. Perhaps you saw some kinds of success with it.
But then it fizzled out, because you missed the PERSISTANCE part.
Big mistake, but a very common one.
Think & Grow Rich should be a massive reminder to you that:
- A) You must know what you want (most don’t).
- B) You must devise a plan.
- C) You give your whole mind and soul to implementing that plan on a daily basis.
The only way to achieve true wealth is to understand that more often than not your emotions and your mindset are what is holding you back from achieving the success you desire.
Your job now, must be to devise your plan and then overcome all your obstacles to implement it thoroughly.
When riches take the place of your money problems, the change is brought about through your well-conceived and carefully executed plan.
I believe this book should taught in every school. I wish someone would have given me about this book when I was a teenager. That’s for sure.
So, if you know anyone who is in their teens, please share this link so they can benefit from the massive powers of this book from a much earlier age than you and I.
As always, please drop a comment in the box below…

Hi Greg,
Indeed very nice summery of an exceeding 200 pages book.
I would like to comment on your B section reminder: You must devise a plan.
I think many people pitfall in this section, relating to the few that succeeded in the first stage.
Making a plan is not that obvious to people who never made one, certainly for teens (who I agree should learn this book at high school).
At this point I see two main possible actions:
1. Make the first step and take it from there.
2. Take an adviser or mentor.
Looking around it seems many if not all of successful people took a mentor to shorten the learning curve.
So I would add taking a mentor to (at least) devise a plan, else your journey will probably be slower and bumpier.

BH
Mentors are extremely important. But I don’t think one mentor will help you your whole life. More a series of different mentors throughout your development.
